Happy Belated Valentine's Day to all my peeps out there! This last week has been all about Valentine's Day. So much so, that I don't want to see another heart/valentine for a loooooooooong time! As a Pre-K teacher, you think that special "holidays" would be easy planning and preparing for because there are so many things to choose from. It's so NOT the case. The fact is that since there is so much out there that you end up overloading on stuff and run yourself into the ground doing it all. I made Valentine Mailboxes from cardboard milk/OJ cartons wrapped with blue construction paper. Then the kids decorated them with TONS of heart stickers. I then gave them crayons and let them draw or write whatever they wanted on them. One little boys asked,"what do I write". I said, "how about your name and then write all the letters you know around on the box". He went to work and when I went back to pick up the box he had written his name and then the letters "AS" right behind it. I got so tickled with the fact that if he had written one more "S" after those two letters that I would have had to sit down with his Daddy and explained why I instructed him to write bad words on his mailbox. Moral of the story....you never know what combination of letters the child will pick to write on anything! Be careful what new words they make~! :)))))) LOL
After the mailboxes, I then made heart cut outs for the kids to put their handprints inside for parents gifts. That meant I painted 13 sets of little hands with white paint, stuck them to red construction paper, and hoped that the hallway didn't get fingerpainted on the way to the bathroom. Of course, I also put together Valentine Cards and gift sacks for each of my kids. So all in all, I am Valentined Out!
The party, of course, was out of control and I think they were all on a sugar high when they walked into class. You would think that they had won a Disney World Cruise or something. I had never seen them so excited and bouncing off the walls! It took them 45 minutes to pass out all the valentines and candy to stuff in their mailboxes. I got the biggest kick out of watching them skip around "delivering" their stuff. Some of them had even written everyones name and signed their own cards. Bless those parents hearts! It must have taken them FOREVER to do that! Next year I think I'll give the parents the candy. They need it more than the kids!!!! Hee Hee!
Other than Valentine's Day, everything was pretty normal around here. The 50 mile an hour winds that blew through on Tuesday night knocked our cable and internet out for 24 hours. I thought we were going to go into withdrawals. The kids did pretty well however. It's a praise that the internet didn't go down the night before though because Caleb was doing a MAJOR project about the MOON and was working on it all night long. Mr. Wait Until the last minute struck again and he was putting on the finishing touches about 11:00 that night. I hate doing that! I promise every time we get one of those "goofy" projects that I am going to stay on top of him to get it finished early but, I never do! It's just so much easier to ignore and then panic!
Well, our house hunt is still on going. We went to Abliene on a spur of the moment thing and looked at some "modular homes" that are built and then moved to your site. One was $90,000! I could have one built for that kind of money. There is also one house by the in-laws coming up in a foreclosure. It's junk right now but with a little cash sunk into it, it might be worth something. We just don't know if we want to work that hard on making it liveable. It would be a great house to "FLIP" though.
Well, I had better run and get my stuff ready for tomorrow. Our next big event is Rodeo! We are making stick horses! At least this year I don't have to be a cow in the calf scramble!
